Certain things are happening in the Niger Delta region which might hamper the relative peace being enjoyed in the area. It is barely one month now that the federal government concluded the amnesty programme for the ex-militants in the region and gradually the government is beginning to renege on some of the promises it has made to communities where oil exploration activities take place.

Recently, the media has been awash with how the federal government, through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) together with some of its joint venture partners has been awarding oil exploration contracts without due process.
