Abuja/Gombe — Uneasy calm has engulfed Gombe, the Gombe State capital as gunmen yesterday attacked the Gombe state 34 Mobile Police Squadron about killing at least three persons.

The situation prompted the State Police Command to mount roads blocks inside Gombe town.

Confirming the attack, Assistant Inspector General of Police Mr. John Moronike said three of the gunmen were shot dead while an Inspector of Police was killed.

Moronike also confirmed that minimal damage had been done to the barracks armoury while the administrative block was also burnt down by the attackers whose identity is yet to be known.

He said already a special squad of the Police bomb disposal unit had begun combing the area to rid it of some bombs suspected to have been dropped by the gunmen.
