THE local government election fixed by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) for December 29 has been postponed.
The election will now be held in the first quarter of next year.
Governor Godswill Akpabio announced this on Wednesday, during a meeting with members of the state executive com-mittee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chapters chairmen, House of Assembly members, commissioners and special advisers, local government transition committee chair-men and other stakeholders of the party, at the state PDP secretariat.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Nsima Ekere, said AKISIEC had informed the state government that the December 29 election date was no longer possible, following a case made by various political parties for an extension of time.
