Recently, the University of Calabar (Unical) erupted in an orgy of violence resulting from the death of a student. Though the death of Chima Agbai Kalu, a final year Public Administration student, was the immediate cause of the rage at the institution, other underlining grievances contributed to the crisis.
The university' s attempt at collecting late fees, the unsolved deaths of other students before Kalu as well as the increase in cult-related activities which had resulted in increased insecurity on campus peeved the students who alleged insensitivity on the part of the institution' s authorities.
