Peace in N’Delta, Most Visible Gain of Ministry’s Creation

The most visible gain of the creation of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is the resolution of the core issues about the development of the region, which has engendered peace in the once volatile region, Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mallam Atiku Abubakar Kigo, has affirmed.

The restoration of peace to the region, he said, came about because the Federal Government had deliberately elevated its development as one of its top priorities, adding that this has now made the oil-rich area to enjoy unprecedented peace.

The Permanent Secretary, who spoke at a forum in Abuja Monday, stressed the need for all stakeholders in the region to support efforts by the leadership of the three-year old ministry under the incumbent Minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe, to fast-track the developmental initiatives of the Niger Delta through creative strategies.

According to him, the ministry’s present role as coordinator of all developmental efforts in the oil-rich region has significantly repositioned the Niger Delta towards contributing meaningfully to national and international economy.
