Authorities in Nigeria say three people have been killed and eight others wounded in an attack on northern village in Kaduna State that saw the worst of post-election violence in the oil-rich nation in April, associated Press reports. This comes as the Federal government sends 1,300 additional riot police to the violence-wracked central Plateau state to quell deadly unrest and sectarian violence, an army spokesman said on Sunday.

The attack happened early Sunday in the Bitaro village of Kaduna state. Villagers said gunmen surrounded their homes and opened fire on the Christian village.
State police commissioner Balla Nasarawa confirmed Sunday that the attack took place, but declined to offer further details. He said no arrests have been made.

Meanwhile Nigeria has sent 1,300 additional riot police to the violence-wracked central Plateau state to quell deadly unrest and sectarian violence, an army spokesman said on Sunday.

Extra army, air force and navy troops will also be deployed within the week, a spokesman of the special task force (STF), army captain Charles Ekeocha, told journalists.
