While the Steve Oronsanye panel set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to find a lasting solution to the recurring crisis of confidence in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), is a welcome development, the underlying causes of the problems show how most Nigerians put self interest above patriotic considerations in the discharge of public service.
In-fighting, insubordination and accusation of high-handedness, are not uncommon within ministries, parastatals and agencies of government, what distinguishes the case of the NDDC is that the fight has turned so messy, such that it attracts all manner of comments from the public domain.
