Salami: Jonathan acted to prevent a vacuum – Presidency

African Examiner
26 August 2011

"What the President has done is to prevent a vacuum. The acting president of
the Court of Appeal is there in an acting capacity until all the issues involved in
this matter have been resolved.’’

This was the defence of the Nigeria’s presidential spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati
to the raging criticism on the decision of president Jonathan to appoint an
acting president of the appeal court following the suspension of Justice Isa
Salami.

Jonathan had on Sunday appointed Dalhatu Adamu as an acting president of
the appeal court, despite the court action which Salami had slammed on the
National Judicial Commission, NJC.

Following the president’s action, oppositions and civil rights society have been
criticizing him over his intervention.
