Niger Delta commission empowers 323 youth

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has recruited 323 unemployed youths in Delta State under its graduate empowerment programme.

The commissioner representing the state in the commission, Emmenuel Ogidi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Wednesday that the programme entailed a two-year "working apprenticeship" by the youth in the private sector.

He said the programme was initiated by the commission to complement the federal government's efforts at addressing the challenge of unemployment in the Niger Delta.

Mr Ogidi explained that under the programme, which was introduced in 2010, the selected youth would undergo training in different skills for one month before going for attachment with private entrepreneurs as workers.
