PORT HARCOURT – FIFTEEN youths were, yesterday, paraded  by the Joint Task Force, JTF, at Abonnema in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State for illegal oil bunkering operations.

Spokesman of the task force, Lt.-Col. Timothy Antigha, said they were arrested in the act and would be handed over to the Police for prosecution.

According to him, in spite of the amnesty programme some youths in Rivers State and other parts of the Niger Delta are still indulging in illegal bunkering activities.
He assured that JTF would continue to come up with fresh strategies to smash their illegal activities.

Antigha said: “The issue of  illegal oil bunkering and refining that have often led to oil spillage, substandard petroleum products, kerosene  explosion and other unpleasant incidents, have kept rearing its ugly head here and there, as the get-rich-quick syndrome reigns supreme among youths and some adults who have refused to engage in honest work.”
