Jonathan ties delayed take-off of federal varsities to poor infrastructure

President Goodluck Jonathan has said the nine newly established federal universities are yet to take off due to the absence of the necessary infrastructure.

The president stated this while speaking to newsmen at his country home, Otuoke in Bayelsa State, Friday, after the inspection of the site of the Federal University of Technology, Otuoke in Bayelsa and a meeting with his kinsmen.

Disclosing he was also at home to measure community effort, the president said, “Not all of them should start this year. We would not want to admit students where we don’t have infrastructure.”

He also attributed the delay to the release of funds for such issues as land acquisition and carrying out environmental impact assessment (EIA) reports on the new universities.
