Inec Begins Valuation of Voter Registration

Abuja — Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday inaugurated a committee that will take a comprehensive look at the Voter Registration and the 2011 general elections.

Registration and Election Review Committee (RERC) which is chaired by Professor Adele Jinadu, a professor of Political Science is made up of eight members who are mainly drawn from the academia.

Most importantly, the evaluation will: Appraise all the operational processes for the voter registration and elections, including planning, organization, coordination and evaluation of activities, focusing particularly on such specific issues as logistics, procurement and delivery of materials, deployment of personnel, etc.

Reassess the legal framework for the conduct of elections with a view to addressing some of the key legal challenges that had arisen in the course of both the registration and elections;

Examine the role, performance and especially the overall administrative procedures and channels within and between Departments in the coordination and execution of the registration and elections;

The committee is also to review the processes of conducting party primaries and nomination of candidates during the 2011 elections as well as INEC monitoring of such processes;

It also has the mandate to comprehensively assess the entire process of recruitment, training, deployment, performance and remuneration of ad-hoc staff during the registration of voters and election proper.
