Honour for Ojukwu: Police storm Enugu venue, arrest 256 MASSOB members

The police in Enugu yesterday stormed the Presidential Hotel venue where Igbo youths converged to honour Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu and others they claimed are the authentic Igbo leaders.
The youths, under the aegis of the Igbo Youth Movement (IYM) were shocked when the police arrived the venue in over seven Hilux vans to arrest the 56 members of the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), who had come to the venue in blue Biafra uniform with rising sun badge, just as over 200 others were intercepted on Enugu-Abakaliki Road as they were about to enter the city. Six of the arrested 56 MASSOB members wore apron with the incription Biafran Red Cross.
MASSOB leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, Daily Sun gathered had sought the permission of the Inspector-General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, to attend the event and was assured he would not have problems.
