Why We Arrested El-Rufai -SSS

African Examiner
2 July 2011

The State Security Service (SSS) has arrested the former Minister of the
Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir el-Rufai. The SSS has also entered
into dialogue with some militant groups in the country to tackle spate of
violence.

The assistant director of the SSS, Mrs Maryln Ogar who confirmed this on a
Radio program in Abuja said el-Rufai was picked up on account of an
unsubstantiated publication in a national newspaper.

“He had published issues against government, against security agencies. He
said that security forces and intelligence community under the National
Security Adviser had been paid more than 200 billion naira and yet there is
dearth of security in the country with bombs going up here and there and
people are dying. You want to expect that somebody that has been in
position of authority, we want to know the steps he had taken to verify the
kind of information he was dishing out to Nigerians. We just picked him up to
explain where he got his figures from, she explained.

Mrs Ogar advised Nigerians not to abuse the Freedom of Information Law to
spread information dangerous to national security.
