Sources close to Former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el rufai has told elombah.com he was arrested by men of the Nigeria State Security Service because the government is uncomfortable with his recent articles and activities. Malam Nasir El Rufai was arrested Saturday by the SSS about 9 am at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja shortly after his arrival from London where he had delivered a trenchant paper on the last presidential election. He was released around 10:30 pm and told to report at the SSS office on Monday morning.

Speaking with elombah.com, a family member said Mallam el rufai is in high spirits and said the security officials questioned him on his recent utterances and articles where he criticized government spending.

Specifically El rufai was questioned on his latest article entitled 'What Nigerians pay the federal government', and 'Jonathan's Tough Choices'.

The Security officials challenged El rufai on his assertion that 'the National Security Adviser (NSA) controls and will spend 208 billion naira" and yet "Nigerians have never felt so insecure in recent history, the NSA, Police and Defence will spend a combined 865 billion naira - more than 2 billion naira a day, weekends included!"
