Nigeria: Govt Lost N8.7 Billion Daily to Niger Delta Crisis - Abbe

It came to light at the weekend that Nigeria lost daily about N8.7 billion ($58 million) to the Niger Delta conflict from 2006 until October 2009 when the amnesty programme led to a ceasefire.

Former Amnesty Planning Committee Chairman, Godwin Abbe, who confirmed the figure in Lagos, noted that the amnesty scheme has brought peace and security to the region and helped to raise oil production to about 2.5 million barrels per day (bpd) from 700,000 million bpd during the crisis.
