Uyo — Over 10, 000 people in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State will benefit from the water projects recently completed by the Russier Alluminium-Alliminium Smiting Company of Nigeria( Rusal-Alscon).

The company recently completed seven water projects to boost water supply in the area. The company's director in charge of government and public relations, Albert Dyabin said the gesture is part of the company's comprehensive social investment programme designed to reduce water borne diseases in rural communities.

He said the programme is also in line with the Federal Government goal of ensuring that 75 per cent of Nigerians have access to safe drinking water by the year 2015 and the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals, which seek to reduce the number of people suffering from poor water related diseases such as cholera and diarrheal.

He said the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Anatoly Polovov, while inspecting the projects, expressed optimism that the health and well being of the people would improve.
