Nasir El Rufai arrested by the SSS

Malam Nasir El Rufai was arrested by the SSS at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on his way from London where he had delivered a trenchant paper on the last presidential election. He was ambushed and whisked by armed SSS and taken to their office in the Villa. Efforts to contact Malam El rufai on phone has proved abortive as a voice constantly says "the MTN number you are trying to call is currently switched off". Observers say

 the authorities are afraid of his intellectualism which he has ably shown in series of articles on how precarious the Nigeria situation is becoming.

El-rufai first announced his arrest on twitter where he tweeted:

“Got detained by the SSS on arrival at Abuja Airport . No reason given. On our way to the SSS HQ. Will keep you posted if phones not seized”.

“We have arrived safely at SSS HQ. They are polite and courteous”.

“Inside the building waiting for the Director to arrive. I still have my phones but under watch by three polite SSS officers”.

“Taken up three floors to see the DG. He was my director of security in FCT, 2003...decent man then, will soon know if fresh air has got him”.

Finally El-Rufai tweeted: “Phone battery is going down...no tweets until i charge”.
