I’ll Turn Umuahia to Mega City, Says Orji

This Day
28 Jul 2011

Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji Wednesday said his administration was going to expand Umuahia, the state capital to a mega city.
Orji also said plans were on-going to re-invigorate existing industrial platform as well as building new infrastructure which said has reached advanced stages.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Public Communications, Mr. Ben Onyechere, the governor said, “by this my government intends to build bye pass roads, re-location of the central market in Umuahia for which contract has been awarded and expansion of existing roads.”
According to him, “The reason why this plan has stayed till now was because the government embarked on massive road rehabilitation in Aba and its environs particularly the negligible state of federal road which criss-cross the state.  This time around the government will leave no stone unturned in the bid to give Umuahia its befitting status especially that it had suffered too much of neglect by succeeding  administrations.
“These measures are also intended to provide jobs and enhance commerce for which Abia State is known in addition to boosting its tourism potentials and attracting external investments, for which reason government has decided to partner with investors in the areas of refinery, fertilizer manufacturing and portable electrification all in the bid to evolve a coordinate status between Umuahia and Aba,” he said.
