CPC Press Statement:INEC’s fresh stumbling blocks before CPC.

CPC Press Statement

07 July 2011
INEC’s fresh stumbling blocks before CPC.

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) hereby brings to the notice of
discerning Nigerians the determined orchestration of the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) to frustrate the prosecution of the Party’s election
petition at the court of appeal.

In a move that obviates the need for further evidence of its utter partisanship,
INEC seeks an order of court to have CPC’s petition thrown out for filing the
petition on a Sunday. What is pertinent is whether INEC wants to conceal
anything as to desiring the petition not going to trial stage?

Furthermore, we wrote for replacement of damaged Hard Disk Drives (HDD) sent to us (as per court order) for voters’ register in nine states- Delta, Nasarawa,
Rivers, Bayelsa, Kwara, Kaduna, Plateau, Lagos, and Sokoto. The letter was dated 22nd June, 2011 and was received by INEC on the 24th June, 2011. Neither the response from INEC nor the replaced HDD have been received till this day (7th July, 2011).

The damaged Hard-drives, aside being impossible to access data from them, have also crashed some of our computers. Aware of the time-constraints of our
petition, the deliberate lackadaisical attitude  of INEC is nothing but an
attempt to frustrate the pursuit of this case.

We have decided to bring this to the notice of Nigerians so that all could see
that INEC, rather than being interested in ensuring that Justice is inexorably
done, is literally in cahoots with retrogressive forces within the polity that
want to perpetuate the electoral heist of April 2011.

We are not perturbed by this gang-up because of our belief in the Nation’s
judicial system in ensuring that justice is done always.

Rotimi Fashakin.(Engr.)
National Publicity Secretary.
