Choices Before President Goodluck Jonathan

This Day
18 July 2011

... It must leave in all of us a deep consuming sense of loss that our leaders did not equip us with the tools we need to succeed in this 21st century and that long periods of Northern leadership of this country did not educate the North as much as it educated the South. Perhaps, we should all now agree that ethnicity, like “religion may inspire, it may even contain the ultimate truth, but whether by act of God, or in consequence of the simple laws of biology and physics it has never been an effective tool for running a successful State”.

The real issue before President Jonathan is not how well he grows the economy because there is no alternative to expanding the economic base of Nigeria but how to ensure that opportunities are more evenly spread and those who live in the shadows of life are particularly helped to a standard minimum life.
