Profile of new Reps’ Speaker

The new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, was born in Tambuwal in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State in January 10, 1966.

He attended Tambuwal Primary School, Tambuwal, from where he left for Government Teachers College, Dogon Daji, Sokoto State, where he obtained Grade 11 Teachers College in 1984.

In 1991, Tambuwal obtained Bachellor of Law degree from Usman Dan Fodio University and ,barrister at Law from Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1992.

He also attended Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2008 and Telane University for a course international in 2008.

The new speaker had held various positions in the Nigerian Bar Association including, Sokoto State branch Public Relations Officer, 1996 to 1997; the branch secretary, 1997 to 1998; National Assistant Financial Secretary, 1998 to 2000; and Assistant National Secretary, 2000 and 2002.

He was the House Deputy Chief Whip between 2007 and 2011 and a member of the following committees: Rules and Business; Communication; judiciary and water resources.
