Leadership
6 June 2011
News flashed last week that Dr. Godknows Igali was acting chief of staff in the presidency. Igali is the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources and, before then, Nigeria 's ambassador to Sweden . It was a flicker of good news in a period when good news had become a very scarce commodity.
Not long after that, the rumours started flying that a strong lobby was building against his confirmation for the job. One of the reasons given is that Igali is from the same Bayelsa State as the president.
Many of those who are vigorously marketing this idea are from the south-south geopolitical zone, so there appears to be some personal interest involved.
