WARRI – YOUTHS from the nine states of the Niger Delta, under the auspices of the Niger Delta Ethnic Coalition, yesterday, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to order security agencies to investigate activities of purportedly sponsored groups, which, in the past few weeks, had mounted campaigns of calumny against the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr. Chibuzor Ugwoha.

The youths in an open letter to the President,   by their national coordinator, Mr. Ebisemi Yiki and nine others, said, “these groups want to create unnecessary tension, so that the Presidency can either sack Ugwoha or dissolve the Governing Board of the commission,  so that their sponsors/backers could be appointed as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer or as members of a new Governing Board.”

According to the youths who expressed confidence in the NDDC management, led by Ugwoha, “some so-called former militants, transparency monitoring groups, concerned citizens and different kinds of movements, which had written frivolous and exaggerated letters against the NDDC need to be investigated”

Bayelsa State Traditional Ruler Kidnapped in Rivers State
George Onah

A traditional ruler in Bayesa State HRH Owei Dele Ere was kidnapped, in Rumuji Community, Emohua Local Government, Rivers State, as the man and his aides were driving towards Port Harcourt Sunday night.

Vanguard gathered that the traditional ruler may have been trailed from Yenagoa as his abductors, who were said to be driving in a black jeep, overtook the traditional ruler's car violently, shooting sporadically and forcing the vehicle to a screeching halt.

Contacted, Police PRO Mr. Ben Uguegbulam said he was making his contacts and would get back to Vanguard. Several calls to Uguegbula were not returned until press time.

Eye witnesses said the shooting by the brigands caused pandemonium in the sleepy community tucked along the Port Harcourt -
Ahoada Highway
, on the
East-West Road
of Rivers State. It caused some fun seekers in drinking joints sprinkled along the road to flee in different directions.

The monarch is the Ibenanaowei of Ogboin Clan in Southern Ijaw Coucil of that state. His abduction is coming several days after the release of five members of the National Youth Service Corpse, who were kidnapped in Etche Community in the state.
