Mali: Mauritanian Army Destroys Al Qaeda Camp

Note: The "suicide bombing" attack on police HQ in Abuja on 16 June has suggested that links between Boko Haram, AQIM, and their brothers in Somalia, Yemen, and elsehwere may be stronger than previously understood.  The timing of this operation is significant.

Mauritania’s army completely destroyed an al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb camp in Mali on June 24, AFP reported June 25. The army used an air strike on the camp in the western Mali region of Wagadou, a source said. Militants returned fire with heavy arms. The camp tent and three vehicles were destroyed; strong explosions were reported across a 20-kilometer radius, probably heavy weapons stocked in the camp.
