FG considers fresh amnesty for Niger Delta militants

There were indications on Wednesday that the Federal Government might soon cave in to pressure to grant fresh pardon to Niger Delta militants that failed to embrace its amnesty offer in 2009.

Our correspondent learnt that some elders, individuals and other vocal groups that have the ears of President Goodluck Jonathan, have held several meetings with the leadership of the nation’s security forces to work out the modalities for the fresh pardon.

Some of those, who are pushing for the new programme in the Niger Delta, were also said to have been encouraged by the current disposition of die-hard loyalists and fighters of the felled militants’ leader, ‘General’ John Togo.

Togo’s supporters are said to be now sober and fully ready to accept all the conditions the Federal Government is offering to disarm militants in the region.
