That Mischievous This Day Headline.

Press Statement: CPC
10 May 2011

Rotimi Fashakin

The Congress for Progressive Change CPC, notes with dismay the disjointed headline by Thisday newspaper (of Tuesday, 10/05/2011) to the story of the press conference by the National Legal Adviser of the party held on Monday, 09/05/2011.

A dispassionate check on the story line vis-a-vis the headline-'CPC justifies killings'- reveals disjointed flow which could only have been predicated on mischief. Indeed, the same story was reported by at least other newspapers in the land but none gave such misleading rendition of the event.

Undoubtedly, Thisday Newspaper management has always shown unmistakable animosity against our great party in the past and would always be desirous of giving slant to a good story to excite scurrillous attacks against our interest.
We are convinced that this cannot be part of the best practices of journalism, which essentially, is to inform correctly without any scintilla of bias. At this juncture, we need to ask: whose interest is the Newspaper serving with this ceaseless manifestation of yellow journalism? Definitely, not the public good!
We remain unfazed in our determined efforts in staying the course of justice, equity and peaceful co-existence of the different ethnic groupings within the Nigerian polity.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
