Post-election violence: Jonathan constitutes 22-man probe panel

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday approved the constitution of a panel to investigate pre-election violence in Akwa Ibom State as well as the civil unrest in some states following the 2011 presidential election. In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, ‘Femi Olayisade, the 22-man panel of investigation is to look into the various crises that enveloped the country before and after the April general elections.

They are expected to identify behind the pre-election violence in Akwa Ibom as well as the violence that greeted the re-election of President Jonathan in some states in the North. Apart from looking into the remote causes of the various crises, the panel has been mandated to recommend how to stem the tide of illegal flow of weapons into the country.
