President Goodluck Jonathan has been urged to return the 2011 budget to the National Assembly (NASS) for downward review of its (NASS) bloated budgetary allocations.
President of Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Dr Herbert Ademola Ajayi, who gave the advise yesterday in Lagos state during the 2011 economic review said, in spite of public outcry over the huge budgetary allocation to the National Assembly, the lawmakers went ahead to increase their allocations by over 100 percent, describing such development as very disappointing.
Ajayi said, the NASS budget was increased from N111.24 billion to N232.74 billion, representing 109.2 percent increment.
'We wish to counsel that Mr. President should insist and return the NASS approved 2011 budget to the N/A for a review. We are here to repeat once again that, the present high cost of governance has been responsible for the lopsided pattern of expenditure with recurrent expenditure taking about 70 percent of the total budget"
