Imo State Governorship Poll: How Our Clarion Calls Destroyed The Rigging Machinery Of The PDP

The leadership of the International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law joins other millions of Nigerians, particularly the people of Imo State and the Southeast, Nigeria, in marking the new dawn in the State. The electoral battle of May 6, 2011 was akin to that of David and Goliath. While   the operatives of the PDP rigging machinery, ferried from all over the country, including about 600 blood-thirsty militants and other instruments of violence, intimidation and rigging, represented “Goliath”, the great people of Imo State, the Innocent Chukwuma’s CLEEN Foundation, which assembled the egg-heads in the civil society, and some courageous top officials of INEC such as Barrister Mike Igini, represented “David”. Officers and persons of the Nigerian Army also aligned themselves with “David”, even though some of them participated in abusing civilians including voters and the INEC accredited observers.  Conversely, officers and persons of the Nigeria Police, as expected, aligned themselves with “Goliath”.

We are happy that our clarion calls, particularly our press statement of April 30, 2011 and letter written to leading foreign missions within and outside Nigeria , dated May, 2nd 2011, were satisfactorily answered
