WITH a widely acclaimed successful election under his belt and days to his inauguration as President for a full four-year term on May 29, President Goodluck Jonathan has been invited to a meeting with leaders of leading economies of the World in Normandy, France for this year’s Group of Eight (G8) Summit.
In a statement released yesterday by the United States (U.S.) State Department late Monday evening, Mike Froman, the White House Deputy National Security Adviser for International Economic Affairs, said for this year’s G8 leaders summit, nine African countries have been invited, including Nigeria .
Apart from Nigeria , the G-8 has also invited Algeria , Côte d’Ivoire , Egypt , Ethiopia , Guinea-Conakry , Niger , Senegal and South Africa . According to the White House official, the focus of this year’s G-8 meetings would be on development, with emphasis on political and security issues.
