LEADER of the Niger Delta Peoples’ Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, at the weekend said he would not accept the amnesty offered by the Federal Government because “the use of amnesty as a criterion of selecting youths for training programmes or financial remunerations is misleading and capable of creating two different citizens in Niger Delta: the “amnestised” and “unamnestised”.
In an on-line statement signed by Mark Olise, general secretary, NDPVF, Dokubo-Asari rejected media reports that he had finally embraced the amnesty programme.
The statement reads in part: “Our attention has been drawn to some widely circulated publications on print and electronic media in the last few days. These publications, which came under varying captions and headlines, claimed that Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari and his NDPVF have accepted amnesty from the Nigerian government against the popular position of the organisation on the subject matter.
