COMMITTEE for Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, has urged the Joint Task Force, JTF, on the Niger Delta to halt all forms of extra-judicial killings of unarmed and former militants in the region in its bid to fish out militant leader, John Togo and his men.

In a statement by the chairman and secretary, Benefit Orubgo, and Chief W. Omeneyone respectively, the group said, “we commend President Goodluck Jonathan for going tough on cement manufacturers and kerosene dealers, their products being items that affect common man in the society. He should also address  the cost of house rents, as it is particularly overbearing on the citizenry.”

On the military task force, the group said, “we urge the JTF to subject all perceived militants involved in any form of criminality to proper investigations and prosecution before a law of court and not for it to be the accuser, investigator, a court unto itself and  executioner in its operations in the Niger-Delta.”
