Minna — The Niger State Police Command has declared that Boko Haram terrorists have infiltrated the state and the neighbouring Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja just as the Niger State Deputy governor, Ahmed Ibeto, has called for community action to combat the menace of the jihadists.

The Commissioner of Police Niger State Command, Michael Zuokumor, who disclosed this to journalists yesterday, said that some members of the dreaded Boko Haram Islamic sect were now in some parts of the state, especially Suleja town, and the Federal Capital Territory.

He assured that the force was on their trail so that they would not develop to the level that they could breach the peace of the state as they had done in Borno State, He added that there was no hiding place for them in Niger State.

"Anybody who is a member of the Boko Haram sect or who wants to cause problem, we have the wherewithal to combat them," the commissioner posited.

In this vein, the police have deployed 10,000 men to provide security in the state for the May 29 inauguration of Governor Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu for second term.

Scores of suspected members of Boko Haram detained at Maiduguri police headquarters in 2009.
Zuokumor explained that 150 of the men of 10,000 men deployed for the May 29 inauguration were specially trained for gun and knife disarming, and armed combat.

He disclosed that 43 people arrested last week with intent to allegedly disrupt the inauguration had been charged to court and remanded in prison custody.

Meanwhile, the deputy governor of the state, Ahmed Ibeto, who spoke to journalists yesterday in Minna, urged the people of the state not to leave the job of providing security in the hands of only security agencies. Meanwhile, Police has reportedly arrested 43 Boko Haram members ahead of president Goodluck Jonathan's inauguration.
