No Longer the Accidental President

This Day
25 April 2011

President Goodluck Jonathan’s National Security Adviser, General Andrew Azazi, has failed to impress. He’s been caught unawares too many times and hardly knows when to anticipate a disaster before it strikes. Otherwise, how can one explain the rising spate of bomb blasts in the weeks leading to and during the elections (sometimes in his home state, Bayelsa); the prison breaks in Bauchi, Yola and Maiduguri; attacks on police stations, again in Bauchi; and the outbreak of inexplicable violence following the presidential election.

Even if other incidents caught him off guard, what justification does he have for not having some forewarning of the orgy of violence that was unleashed against innocent citizens in several states in the north last week? It was a disaster waiting to happen and all the signs had been pointing to that direction for weeks and days in the run up to the presidential election.
