Nigeria: Who Wins Akwa Ibom?
analysis

As the people of Akwa Ibom vote today to choose their next governor, the political atmosphere in the oil-rich south-south state is charged as the dramatis personae are at their wit's end to win tenancy of the Hilltop Mansion and pilot the affairs of the state in the next four years. Bernard Tolani Dada examines the key factors and character cast of the intense political drama.

Will Akwa Ibom citizens revalidate the mandate of the incumbent governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio or choose from the other contestants, the man who would run the business of governance as from May 29? Big question.

From the array of qualified combatants released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) early this year for the epochal battle for the number one political seat in the state are notable politicians of no mean repute. At the last count, no fewer than 10 candidates on various political party platforms are in the race.
