The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) halted elections into the Senate and House of Representatives across the country yesterday as a result of failure in its logistics projection and errors on voter’s registers and ballot papers in several states.

Professor Attahiru Jega, the INEC boss, in a nationwide broadcast yesterday claimed that the “vendors” failed to deliver essential voting materials, thereby thwarting plans by the electoral umpire to distribute those items to every nook and cranny of Nigeria, as planned.

In a televised address to the nation, INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, said the vendor contracted to supply sensitive election materials, including ballot papers and results sheets, defaulted by about 48 hours, making deployment to states impossible.

He said: “We have been disappointed by a vendor. The vendor was supposed to deliver these materials latest by Thursday late afternoon and we were confident from the assurances that once these materials were delivered, there is sufficient time to be able to deliver as scheduled.
