Press Statement
RECKLESS SHOOTING OF TORNUBARI NNAA AND A POLICE OFFICER BY SOLDIERS PROTECTING RCC BOSS.
The Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law roundly condemns the reckless shooting of one Tornubari Nnaa ‘m’, 24 year and a police officer yesterday alone Onne road by soldiers protecting RCC Boss. The callous shooting of these defenseless citizens is rather unfortunate and represents a pathetic fate of Nigerian citizens everywhere in the country.

The Nigerian security officers, with no exception, have made themselves tools for manipulations by the rich and the politician and as a result, have derailed completely from their statutory duties. For the avoidance of doubt, this is revealed in the vicious acts meted out to citizens. And most curative measures to security problems became more deadly than the disease and that becomes a ready recipe for disenchantment with the security agents.

The  IHRHL calls on the Rivers State Government and the House of Assembly to sound a serious caveat to Security Chiefs to ensure the respect of human rights in the discharge of their task of prevention and detection of crime, apprehension of offenders, preservation of law and order, protection of life and property in the society.
