Lagos — Following the Supreme Court judgment ceding 86 oil wells previously held by Akwa Ibom to Rivers State and the media reports that the former will refund N350 billion to the coffers of the latter, Governor Go0dswill Akpabio has said his state does not owe Rivers.
Speaking during a state broadcast on Tuesday, Akpabio said, there have been disturbing reports and speculations that under the terms of the recent judgment Akwa Ibom would pay the amount to Rivers State, including revenue and interests inclusive.
Akpabio said such reports are outrageous, regrettable and totally false.
He said: "It should be stressed that during the period under consideration (April 2009 to date), we did not earn up to N350 billion from the over 980 oil wells currently attributed to Akwa Ibom State .
"The media report is misleading. The media report is unfortunate. That Akwa Ibom should refund N350 billion on account of only 86 oil wells is extremely misleading and laughable."
