Nigeria: FG Reels Out N1.2 Trillion Gas, Petrochemical Plants' Contracts

Lagos — The Federal Government on Thursday made good its promise of gas revolution as it reeled out N1.2 trillion ($8 billion) contracts. It consists of a $2 billion contract to Eni SpA's Agip and Oando Plc to build a natural gas processing facility and $6 billion agreements with other multi-nationals to build petrochemicals and fertilizer's plants in Nigeria.

The petrochemical and fertilizer plants, which will cost $3.5 billion and $2.5 billion respectively, are expected to be completed by 2014.

Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke who disclosed this after the launching of gas revolution by President Goodluck Jonathan maintained that the gas processing plants would be sited at Obiafu in the southern part of Rivers State.
