Nigeria: 48 Political Parties Sign Code of Conduct Amid Protests

No fewer than 48 political parties out of the 63 recognised Tuesday in Abuja signed a code of conduct agreement that is to guide their behavour and attitude before, during and after the April general election.

The ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) was among the few that was yet to sign as at the press time. No reason was given for their action but the National Secretary of the party Alhaji Kawo Baraje, was at the meeting.  Announcing this at Transcorp Hilton venue of the signing ceremony Tuesday the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) , Prof. Attahiru Jega, said that the law requires that at least 50 percent of the registered political parties must sign it for it to be effective but about 75 percent already signed.
