JTF: uncovers illegal petroleum depot in Warri

In continuation of the ongoing clampdown on illegal refineries in the Niger Delta, the Joint Task Force yesterday afternoon smashed an illegal bunkering and refining ring operating from the Alele Waterside in the Oil City of Warri, Delta State.

About 100,000 litres of illegally refined petroleum products were seized from a ‘secret’ depot located in the waterfront, just as several wooden boats, pumping machines and other paraphernalia of the illicit deals were seized from the scene.

It was gathered that the task force operatives, who obviously acted on a tip-off, invaded the waterside, located behind the Warri Main Market. Four suspects (names withheld) were arrested during the sortie by the JTF.

JTF Commander, Major Gen. Johnson Ochoga, who confirmed the operation, said it was a new phase in the fight against pipeline vandalism and other criminal acts targeted at the oil and gas industry.
