•Tightens security in Abuja, Jos    •It is idiotic to link me with blasts – IBB

President Goodluck Jonathan reacted to the ongoing public criticism on Wednesday by explaining that his comment on the involvement of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) in the explosions in Abuja on October 1 was misunderstood.

Former military President, Ibrahim Babangida, himself lamented the attempt by Jonathan to “demonise” him and link him with the blasts.

Abuja and Jos, meanwhile, have a security ring around them.

Jonathan said he did not exonerate the MEND, and those who carried out the killings may be charged with treason.

A statement issued in Abuja by his Campaign Spokesperson, Sully Abu, clarified that what Jonathan “was simply saying was that nobody should use the name of any organisation to cover up a heinous crime.

“He was not absolving the MEND or any other group of blame or culpability.”
