NDLF, the Niger Delta Liberation Front, has called on the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), to avoid acts of terrorism in its operations. This follows threats by MEND in the past few days to bomb political gatherings and oil installations in the country. The group has also warned Nigerians to stay away from such places and not to be swayed by the government’s assurances of security.
“MEND must also understand the fact that the principal rule behind Niger Delta struggle is to fight for freedom and justice by destroying the economy through bombing of oil installations and not killing innocent persons through bomb attacks,” NDLF said in the statement issued by its spokesman, Mark Anthony, pointing out that killing innocent Nigerians is not part of the Niger Delta struggle. “It is a different agenda and we will condemn it in its entirety.”
