ABUJA, March 30 (Reuters) - Nigeria's next president will need to ensure an amnesty programme is sustained in the restive Niger Delta and energy reforms are passed if he is to avoid watching an oil sector relapse from its fragile recovery.
President Goodluck Jonathan is Nigeria 's first head of state from the Niger Delta, the heartland of Africa 's largest energy industry, and as the incumbent he is the favourite to win a presidential election on April 9.
Jonathan brokered an amnesty with militants in 2009 that significantly reduced attacks on oil facilities, helping production rise from below 2 million barrels per day (bpd) to around 2.6 million bpd, according to government figures.
