Nigeria: Jonathan Urges Niger Delta Youths to

President Goodluck Jonathan's campaign train was in Asaba, Delta State, Friday with an appeal to youths in the Niger-Delta region to embrace peace in order to attract rapid development to the area.

Jonathan, during the presidential campaign rally also assured Deltans of his administration's commitment to refocusing the energies of federal interventionist agencies tow-ards sustainable development and youth empowerment.

He urged Niger Delta youths to take advantage of opportunities from the various interventionist agencies and engage in productive ventures.

Jonathan said the Nigeria National Petroleum Corpor-ation plans to create jobs for over 5,000 youths in the region, adding that this will engage the youth in productive ventures.

He also promised that his administration would transform the Nigerian oil and gas industry and make it the destination of choice for investors in Africa.

The president assured that plans are underway to refocus the Niger-Delta Ministry and the Niger Delta Development Comm-ission to optimize their efficiency, adding that the in-fighting in the agencies run counter to the aims of their creation.
