Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday said that having concluded the voter registration exercise, it would require the sum of US$360 million to conduct the April general and presidential elections.
The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega said the elections which would be conducted for the offices of the head of state, Governors, National Assembly and State Assembly 360,000 staff and that the Commission would require three members of staff per polling unit nationwide.
“We hope to immediately commence the process of recruitment of additional 4,000 staff after the April elections as the initial attempt before we came in was faulty. “We want to bring in new staff who can add value to the Commission and we need not rush the process ; once the elections are over, that will be our next priority,” the INEC boss said.
