The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Dimeji Bankole, on Thursday, said that the House was awaiting the reports of its committee on the controversial Freedom of Information (FOI) bill that was re-awakened last week.
The development came even as he promised to handle the anti-terrorism bill currently before the House with his other colleagues next week.
Bankole said that the proceedings of the House, on Wednesday, laid the bill for final passage.
On the terrorism bill, he declared: “I am sure you watched the proceeding yesterday; the bill was actually laid for final passage. So, I will be handling it myself next week with my colleagues.”
Bankole, in a brief chat with airport correspondents at the Presidential Lounge of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, after his arrival from Abuja, stated that the House would get the report by next Tuesday or Wednesday.
His words: “We are expecting the report any moment from now and I am sure that it will come in Tuesday or latest by Wednesday, and you can hold me to that.”
It will be recalled that the FOI bill, which had since 2007 been a major issue in the National Assembly was regarded dead until it was last week resurrected by members of the House of Representatives.
