A total of 345 governorship candidates from 49 political parties of the 63 registered parties in the country will be contesting the April 16 governorship election, it emerged last night.
According to a poll survey released by a coalition of Civil Society Group under the aegis of "Project 2011 Swift Count’ the Peoples Democratic Party has the highest number of governorship candidates from 31 states followed by Action Congress of Nigeria with candidates in 29 states.
The All Nigeria Peoples Party and Congress for Progressive Change follow with each of them having candidates in 25 states.
PDP, the report said, is fielding governorship candidates in all states except in Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Anambra and Edo states where there would be no governorship election due to the fact that the tenure of office of the incumbent governors are yet to elapse.
