BARELY two weeks after some Niger Delta ex-militants took over the Lokoja- Abuja highway in a protest, they have finally  appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to include them in  the amnesty programme.

This was contained in a statement signed by the ex-militants' lawyer, Mr, Olu Ojujoh, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Lokoja on Sunday.

According to the statement, "our clients, Ramsey Umokoro, Enemo Udubagha, Alexendra  Amgbare and several other militants  were freedom fighter during the Niger Delta struggle before  the federal government proclaimed amnesty for militants in 2009".

The statement noted that many of them did not surrender their arms and ammunition because they believe that the programme was not going to be a success, adding that  the benefit derived by those who  embraced it created awareness for others to believe that it was better to  embrace it that using arms and ammunition for criminal activities.
